PICS FROM ATHI-PATRA RUGA’S ELDER OF AZANIA

“Inside each balloon there is either water, baby powder, flickering lights, as well as one or two more surprises, with the overall visual result creating an experience similar to seeing a slowly shifting digital artwork. This digital artwork is also a world named Azania, created by Ruga, and constantly being curated and inhabited by new elements, figures and colours. Revisiting Ruga’s Azania with each new performance he puts out, similar to a painting one would buy and look at over the years, creates a relationship and not just a fleeting experience.” Steyn Du Toit, www.iol.co.za
