Our friends Steve Marais and Jeandre Venter often create a post menswear week shoot, using the best of the collections showcased at the event, which folded its autumn-winter run on Saturday, as you should know if you’ve been following our coverage. This season was no different. Together with another one of our favs, Colin O’Mara Davis (on Creative Direction), and Suaad Jeppie (grooming), the duo shot Julien Desvaux De Marigny and Murray McDonald at the Cape Town stadium restrooms.
Says photographer, Steve Marais:
At the SAMW S/S collections held in July last year, the huge public rest rooms at the Cape Town stadium became as much a character at the event as either of the show venues. Soon this became the perfect setting for many a selfie on everyone’s Instagram feeds, and soon these loos were regarded synonymous with SAMW. So of course this was the perfect location for our Fall/Winter shoot. Aptly titled W.C., short for water closet (flush toilet) – which is commonly used on signs to point out the location of a public toilet – the shoot explores the diversity on offer at the latest SAMW showcase, in muted tones of greens and yellows, winter burgundies, soft blues and bright pops of orange. Featured designers include: Rich Mnisi, Nao Serati, AKJP, Amanda Laird Cherry, Jenevieve Lyons, Sol Sol, Orange Culture (Nigeria), Kim Gush, Blanc, Dicker and Young & Lazy. Most notably not included are Chulaap and Mdingi x Coutts because of scheduling conflicts and availability of their ranges on our shoot days, but of course we would have loved to have them.
